VOTE RESULTS: One Wolves player receives over 50% of the votes for predicted top performer - and not who you might expect

VOTE RESULTS: One Wolves player receives over 50% of the votes for predicted top performer - and not who you might expect

A vote was conducted to see who the public - consisting of both Wolves fans and supporters of the national team - deem to be the most likely top performing Portuguese player at the Molineux club this upcoming season.

And the results may prove somewhat surprising. Having only this summer signed two fully-fledged Portuguese internationals in Rui Patricio and João Moutinho, some may have anticipated a two-way battle between the two Champions League pedigree stars, but that certainly didn't prove to be the case.

Indeed, it was one of Wolves' Championship players that stormed to victory in the poll, receiving over half of all the votes cast and beating his compatriots with ease.

Rui Patricio lagged behind, receiving the second highest number of votes but only 14.8% of the total.

Diogo Jota and Helder Costa were neck and neck, receiving just over 12% of the votes each, while João Moutinho didn't even make it to fifth, beaten by compatriot Ivan Cavaleiro, who received 5.3% of the votes cast. Moutinho, by comparison, only got 4%.

Wonderkid Ruben Vinagre, who recently won the U19 European Championship with Portugal after shining so impressively in the tournament, rounded off the poll, receiving just a single vote. Pedro Gonçalves, unsurprisingly, failed to gain any.

In terms of the predictions for where Wolves will finish this season, not a single person picked Wolves to suffer relegation back to the Championship, with great confidence shown in the side to achieve at least a top-half finish.

Indeed, 55% of voters predicted Wolves would finish at least top 10 this season, a remarkable show of confidence in a recently-promoted side.

Just over 1.3% even said a top 4 finish was on the cards, while 7% said a Europa League placing would happen on the first attempt.

However, with 46.9% expecting just a top half finish and 40.5% predicting a placing at the top end of the bottom half, a season of consolidation is certainly the standout prediction from all participants in the poll.

Thank you for voting, and here is how the results were distributed for where Wolves are expected to finish in their first season back in the top flight:
