Benfica 1-0 Fenerbahce: Benfica earn narrow first leg victory

Benfica earned a 1-0 victory in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie against Fenerbahce.

Cervi was the man to give Benfica the win, scoring in the 70th minute courtesy of a low shot that was too powerful for Fenerbahce 'keeper Volkan to keep out, despite getting a hand to it.

Benfica were in control throughout the match but were struggling to break down Fenerbahce, who looked content with taking a draw back to Turkey with them, and for all the possession Benfica  had, the end product was lacking.

They will therefore be delighted to come away with the victory, despite it being precarious, while not conceding an away goal can also be considered a great triumph.
