FC Porto 2-0 Olympiakos

FC Porto 2-0 Olympiakos

FC Porto were made to work hard as they came out of their clash with Olympiakos with a 2-0 victory to move them up to 2nd in the league standings.

After defeat to Manchester City in the first game, Porto knew that nothing less than a victory would see them rise to 2nd in the standings at this very early stage in the campaign, but they managed to get the job done despite being under some heavy pressure against their Greek counterparts.

Porto took an early lead through Fabio Vieira, Porto capitalising on an error from Olympiakos’ captain Bouchalakis before 20-year old Vieira tapped the ball home, easing the pressure on the hosts and throwing a spanner in the works for Pedro Martins’ side.

Nevertheless, Olympiakos remained in the game, and for large spells in the second half, put FC Porto under considerable pressure in their search for an equaliser, and will feel hard done by that they failed to find the back of the Porto net.

Indeed, it was Porto that struck again in the closing stages, Marega’s cross finding the brave head of Sergio Oliveira to seal the points for the Portuguese champions.

Porto will face Andre Villas-Boas’ Marseille home and away over the coming two gameweeks in the Champions League in two matches that will be critical in determining Porto’s chances of advancing out of the group.
