Sporting midfielder sold for 20 million euros
Sporting CP have sold starting midfielder Wendel to Russian champions Zenit Saint Petersburg for a fee in the region of 20 million euros.
The Brazilian central midfielder, who was left out of the Sporting matchday squad on Sunday as he finalised his move away from the Lisbon club, signs for Zenit on a five-year deal.
The 23-year old played 39 matches across all competitions for Sporting last season, 28 of which came in the Primeira Liga. Upon his arrival at the club from Fluminense in 2017, he played a total of 79 games as he quickly established himself as a key player in the squad.
Wendel has represented his country on five occasions at U23 level.
