Lisbon rivals in potential tug-of-war battle to sign Ruben Vinagre
Sporting CP and SL Benfica are showing considerable interest in the potential signing of Portugal youth international Ruben Vinagre, who has been impressing at Famalicao.
The 21-year old, playing senior football in Portugal for the first time in his career, is currently on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, having had a disappointing spell at Olympiakos earlier this season.
With his deal with the Greek giants cut short, Famalicao capitalised, utilising the loan market to their advantage yet again to bring in the attacking left back to bolster their under-performing squad.
With his direct running style and ability to power down the wing and drift inside, Vinagre is leaving an impression on the Primeira Liga - and is already attracting attention from some famous suitors.
Sporting CP have identified Vinagre as an ideal candidate to replace young star Nuno Mendes should the 18-year old, who made his senior Portugal debut last week, be sold this summer.
Mendes has been attracting interest from some giants of the game, including the two Machester clubs, and it is looking increasingly unlikely that he will be a Sporting player next season.
Benfica, meanwhile, are also looking to bolster their options for next season after a disappointing campaign has seen them fighting for a Champions League berth rather than the title.
