Next Sporting manager chosen - and has to rescind his contract with his current club first
Sporting president Varandas has revealed that the next manager of the club has already been determined, and it isn't one of the frontrunners for the job.
Varandas said that while the new coach is known, he "cannot reveal who it is as there isn't an agreement with the club he is currently working for".
As such, names that were linked with the job, such as Paulo Sousa, Miguel Cardoso, Carlos Carvalhal and Claudio Ranieri, will not be the next Sporting manager.
Another name that can be ruled out is former Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim, although Varandas did admit that Sporting were keen on securing his signature.
The Sporting president said they had a "real interest" in bringing him back, but he was not an option as he disclosed that he was not interested in returning to Portugal in the near future.
Jorge Jesus and Aitor Karanka are two names that have been linked with the job recently that are currently at a club - Jesus at Al-Hilal and Karanka at Nottingham Forest - but it is understood that neither of those will be Sporting's next manager.
The new frontrunner is current Vitesse manager, and former Russian national team coach, Leonid Slutsky.
