Pepe has offers - but the veteran centreback prefers a return to Portugal or a move to England

Portuguese international Pepe has been a free agent since his contract with Besiktas was terminated by mutual consent just before Christmas.

The 35 year old has since been the source of a great deal of transfer speculation, with several clubs across the continent, and the world, linked with the veteran centreback.

One side believed to be interested in signing the 103-time international was Monaco, who are currently languishing in the relegation zone and have suffered a string of injuries to key players in recent weeks.

Adding experience to a youthful squad is thought to be crucial in helping Monaco revive their season and escape the dreaded drop-zone, with star striker Falcao commenting that many of the current players couldn't cope with the pressure.

Pepe would therefore prove the perfect addition to the team.

However, it is understood that Pepe has two preferences in mind, nether of which involve him moving to France and Ligue 1.

Instead, France's 10 Sport, which also report Monaco's interest in the player, state that he hopes to either make a return to Porto, where he kick-started his career, or alternatively complete a move to the English Premier League.

With Porto's young centreback Eder Militao linked with a move away from the club, Pepe could come in and serve as a very suitable short-term replacement, while Nuno Espirito Santo's Wolves have also been linked with a move for the former Real Madrid defender.
