Fabio Coentrão makes highly-anticipated return debut as Rio Ave secure victory

Fabio Coentrão played sixty minutes of Rio Ave's clash with Boavista as his return was marked with a 2-1 victory.

Coentrão, 30, returned to his boyhood club on deadline day this summer after no offer came in from Sporting, who he played for last campaign.

Despite having typically been used as a leftback at Benfica, Real Madrid and Sporting - and for the national team - Coentrão was utilised as a left winger in the clash, a role he has undertaken occasionally in previous years, illustrating Rio Ave's desire to get the former Real Madrid player as involved in the action as possible.

The victory sees Rio Ave consolidate their position of fifth in the table, the position they occupied at the end of last season.
