The five Porto players whose contracts expire tomorrow

Porto are set to lose five players for free as their contracts come to an end on July 1st.

That includes two crucial first-team players, in additional to three players who have served more of a rotation role.

One of those players set to leave is Hector Hererra. Free to leave for no cost at all, the Mexican international is to depart the Portuguese club, with Atletico Madrid widely expected to be the club to announce his acquisition, as soon as tomorrow (1st July).

Herrera captained Porto in over 130 matches, having started his spell at the club all the way back in 2013, making him by far one of the longest-serving Porto players in the side.

The other player who has established himself as a key player at FC Porto since his arrival at the club in 2014 is Yacine Brahimi. Currently on international duty with Algeria at the African Cup of Nations, his future remains far less clear, and there are fewer potential suitors than many would have perhaps expected.

A move to China could be on the cards, while Everton also remain a possibility. Nothing looks imminent, though, and things could become clearer after the African Cup of Nations has concluded

Porto are also set to lose Portuguese winger Hernani. The 27-year old played a minimal role in Porto’s most recent campaign, featuring in 10 league games overall, but starting none of them and featuring for no more than 15 minutes in any.

Porto are also going to lose forward Adrian Lopez. The Spaniard joined Porto back in 2014 for a substantial 11 million euros, but ultimately spent a substantial amount of his time at the club out on loan at Villarreal and Deportivo La Coruna.

As a result, Lopez played just 52 matches for Porto across all competitions - 25 of which were in the league, making him cost close to 500,000 euros per league outing.

The other player leaving the club now his contract has expired is goalkeeper Fabiano. The Brazilian shot-stopper, now 31, played just 6 games for Porto last season - all of which came in the Portuguese Cup.
