Olympiakos or Istanbul Basaksehir stand in the way of Porto and the Champions League group stage

Olympiakos or Istanbul Basaksehir stand in the way of Porto and the Champions League group stage

Porto have today discovered their potential opponent in the Champions League playoff.

Porto will face Krasnodar in the Champions League third qualifying round, the first leg of which takes place this Wednesday, and will have to overcome their Russian opponents to reach the Champions League playoff round.

Should they manage to defeat their Russian counterparts, they will then have to face one of Olympiakos or Istanbul Basaksehir in a bid to once again reach the Champions League group stage.

Olympiakos, who are managed by Portuguese manager Pedro Martins, are looking to reach the Champions League yet again, having failed to reach that stage of the competition last campaign.

The Greek giants have a very strong history in the competition, and will certainly serve as a tough test for Porto should they overcome their Turkish opponents.

Basaksehir should not be underestimated either though. After a very strong showing in the Turkish top flight last season, they finished second only to Galatasaray in the Turksih Super Lig, and are certainly a team on the up.

They proved in the Europa League group stage against Braga in the 2017-18 season that they are a side capable of causing any team significant problems.
