West Ham closing in on signing teenage talent Gonçalo Cardoso from Boavista

English Premier League outfit West Ham United are closing in on the signing of highly regarded Boavista centreback Gonçalo Cardoso.

The 18 year old is thought to potentially be one of Portugal’s future international centrebacks in the making, having already impressed at senior level in Portugal.

There are very high hopes for the 18-year old defender, who featured in 15 of Boavista's 34 Primeira Liga matches last season, never looking out of place.

He actually made his debut for Boavista back in October when he was just 17 years of age, playing the entirety of the 1-0 victory over Aves.

After that, he kept his place in the team, continuing to show maturity beyond his years as his positional awareness and reading of the game was regularly on show.

His excellent displays for Boavista earned him a starting spot at the U19 Euros last month, where he led Portugal to the final, playing in all of Portugal's matches throughout the competition, captaining the side in the process.

There is therefore great excitement surrounding the player, and West Ham are expected to pull off something of a coup in the deal, signing him for around €3.5million.

He is also expected to be afforded a decent amount of game time at West Ham, and should the move go through he will be in and around the first team squad for the upcoming season for the London club.
