Santa Clara cruise past Shkupi to set up Europa Conference League meeting with Olimpija Ljubljana

Santa Clara put in a professional performance in their second leg meeting with North Macedonian side Shkupi, following up a comfortable 0-3 victory in the first leg with an equally straightforward 2-0 win in Ponta Delgada.

Despite the tie looking secure heading into the second leg, Daniel Ramos still chose to field a very strong starting lineup which included stars such as Lincoln, Carlos Junior and Morita, unwilling to risk any potential for a shock collapse.

It proved to pay off, with Santa Clara well on top and opening the scoring early on, a delightful cross from Lincoln finding Carlos Junior, who could not miss from close range.

Santa Clara doubled their advantage later on in the first half, Vilanueva this time heading home from another good delivery.

The second half was slightly more complicated for Santa Clara, Shkupi playing with a little more freedom and creating more chances against a Santa Clara side who already had one and a half eyes on the next round.

Santa Clara were always in control of the tie though, and looked just as likely to extend their lead as they were to see their clean sheet wiped out, continuing to create some reasonable chances despite substitutions being made to rest players for the upcoming match against Olimpija Ljubljana in the next round.
