Alex Telles unlikely to renew with FC Porto, departure complicated but anticipated

Porto’s star Brazilian left back Alex Telles is likely to leave the club this window, with his contract due to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign - though his sale has become complicated.

Alex Telles has been heavily linked with a big-money move to Manchester United, with representatives travelling to England in an attempt to broker a deal, though no agreement has been reached.

Sevilla have also been a club that have shown significant interest and have sought to secure his signature as a potential replacement for Reguilon, whose loan spell at the club from Real Madrid has come to an end, but their interest is believed to be elsewhere, with Marcos Acuna of Sporting a possibility.

As a result, FC Porto are looking for alternative options for the 27-year old leftback, with both Chelsea and PSG offered the chance to sign the player in a deal worth in the region of 25 million euros, though Chelsea have already signed Ben Chilwell.

Atletico Madrid are also seen as a highly likely option for Telles, with TVI24 reporting that Porto are looking into the possibility of resigning Hector Herrera this month, and Telles could therefore form part of a deal that sees Herrera go in the opposite direction.

With FC Porto still looking to obtain funds this month and looking to cash in on Alex Telles while they still can - with the one-time Brazilian international’s contract with the Portuguese champions set to expire at the end of the 2020-21 campaign - a sale is deemed the most likely solution.

Wolves had also been suggested as a possible destination should no alternatives be found, with Jorge Mendes and Wolves having already brought in Fabio Silva and Vitinha from the Portuguese club, but he is not a priority or a current target for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who are instead keen on recruiting a right back.

However, a move to Molineux couldn't be ruled out entirely; if no other club comes in with a suitable offer for Telles, Jorge Mendes could try and facilitate a move to Wolves instead.

Telles was a star for Porto last season, as he has been since he arrived at the club from Galatasaray in 2016, scoring 11 goals and assisting 8 in 31 Primeira Liga appearances as he helped guide his club to the Portuguese league title.
